Six Individuals Detained After €12M Robbery on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic
A team of six suspects carrying military-grade weapons used explosive devices to breach the security of a gold refining laboratory located in Lyon, resulting in minor injuries to five staff members during what is being called the latest high-profile broad daylight robbery to hit France.
The bold operation occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, with police forces swiftly apprehending the individuals believed responsible and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12 million (£10.5M), as stated by authorities.
Five staff members of the precious metals facility sustained minor injuries due to the explosion, and three of them were taken to a medical facility for evaluation, according to regional authorities. Twenty-eight employees were inside the facility when the robbers attacked.
The individuals, thought to be career criminals, were arrested soon afterwards in the adjacent municipality of the town of Vénissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.
A woman involved who took part in the raid was likewise arrested, officers confirmed.
“Six people who utilized explosives in an assault targeting a gold refining facility in Lyon were arrested at the scene,” France's security official declared on social media, commending law enforcement for their “quick action, authority and management”.
